The Buyeo National Cultural Heritage Research Institute,
under the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage,
    Korea Heritage Service,
will host field briefing sessions on June 12 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
to reveal the results of the excavation of the central Geumgdang Hall
of Mireuksa Temple Site in Iksan.

    -Excavation Site :32-1, Giyang-ri, Geumma-myeon, Iksan-si, Jeollabuk-do.
-Central Geumdang Hall :The temple's main hall is located in
the center of the temple complex, housing the main Buddha.

The Mireuksa Temple Site in Iksan is the largest temple site of the Three Kingdoms Period and one of the core royal city sites of Baekje. This year's excavations identified the natural terrain prior to the creation of the temple complex and the sequential civil engineering process from the foundation of the temple to the construction of the interior platforms.
The column bases of the central Geumdang Hall are 2.2 to 2.4 meters in diameter and 1.2 meters deep. They were constructed using a combination of soil and split stones, which differs from the construction methods of the Baekje temples identified in previous surveys at Mireuksa.

In addition, it was confirmed that the foundations of the platform and column bases on the western side of the central Geumdang Hall were renovated in a significant area, although the exact cause is unknown.

*Platform :A platform built one floor higher than the foundation of a building after smoothing out the ground.
    * Reconstruction: A building is newly constructed or repaired because it was destroyed or worn out.

The results of these excavations are considered to constitute an essential source for comparing the construction methods of the eastern and western Geumdang Halls at the Mireuksa Temple Site in Iksan and other prestigious buildings of the Three Kingdoms period, as well as for showing Baekje's civil engineering techniques utilizing the natural terrain of Mireuksa under the Mireuksan Mountain (430m above sea level) along with the results of the excavations conducted at the Wooden Pagoda Site in 2022.

These field briefings will detail the construction process and transformation of the central Geumdang Hall of Mireuksa Temple Site, Iksan, confirmed through excavations and are open to all interested citizens.

The Buyeo National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage under the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, Korea Heritage Service plans to conduct surveys on the exterior of the central Geumdang Hall site and conduct natural scientific analysis of artifacts, stones, soil, and organic samples to determine the cause and specific timing of the renovation.
